NAOP's Advocacy Role
Frederick
Law Olmsted was more
than a park designer, he was the leading voice
for the provision of healthful,
accessible and beautiful green spaces for all
citizens. Today, the National
Association for Olmsted Parks sees its role in
much the same way. Its purpose
is both to protect historic landscapes as well
as to build the capacity of a
network of national members and member
organizations that work on behalf of
local parks and landscapes. Together, this
network preserves specific places
and ensures that the Olmsted ideals of high
quality design, abundance of
natural elements and democratic accommodations
are part of the modern parks
movement.
NAOP
supports local advocacy efforts by sharing our
knowledge of the Olmsted legacy
and, when appropriate, working in partnership
with local communities
