National Association for Olmsted Parks/City Parks Alliance Partnership
City
Parks Alliance (CPA) and the National
Association for Olmsted Parks
(NAOP) have developed a cooperative agreement
to share administrative
costs of the two organizations, including
staff and an office in Washington, D.C. The
collaboration allows both groups to broaden
their efficacy in public
advocacy, education and research about city
parks and the Olmsted
legacy. The two organizations share certain
common objectives that are
executed jointly and individual objectives
that are executed
separately.
An eight-person Joint Management Oversight Committee, comprised of the officers of both organizations, meets quarterly to set goals and review the progress of the partnership. The executive director, in consultation with one co-chair of each organization, oversees day-to-day management of the partnership. Joint programs for 2006 include the launch of the Parks Practices Web site and the publication of two workbooks.
CPA is a nationwide organization of city parks and recreation leaders and their organizations that work together through advocacy and the sharing of best practices to strengthen support for city parks across the country. Membership in CPA currently totals 175 organizations, both non-profit and public sector.
The partnership was established in April 2004.
